Damon Albarn claimed it years ago...Cut down on your pork life and get some exercise.

The miracle pill that everyone is waiting for -

If you could put the benefits of exercise in a pill you would be a very very rich man or woman for certain.

Who has seen that statistic that says we should all be taking 30 - 60 mins of exercise a day to stay healthy?

Yes, that’s right a minimum of 30 mins a day just to be healthy. I’m not sure that too many of us can claim we exercise that much. Sure a good few of you that we have met along the way at Straight Back will be able to claim that.

But I would bet that a lot more couldn’t lay claim to taking that much exercise every week, day or month.

Check out these ways in which you could hit your target of that much exercise in a week -

As an example the NHS suggests you try the following:

At least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity such as cycling or brisk walking every week and

Strength exercises on 2 or more days a week that work all the major muscles (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms)

There are other ways to get the combination of exercise right but the point is… Just do something.

If you aren’t doing an awful lot at the moment then the best thing to do do something and the one thing that couldn’t be much simpler is to take a brisk walk.

I can’t recommend the benefits a brisk walk enough. Whether it be for starting an exercise programme or because you have an injury or have just had surgery. It’s got to be right up there as the top exercise that we prescribe here especially when it comes to rehabilitation. Forget the back stretches, the hamstring stretches or the core strengthening.

Without a doubt, the number 1 rehab drill we ask patients to do is a daily walking regime.

There really isn’t a better way to get going again. It's free, simple and only requires a pair of shoes - no tight fluoro lycra required - unless you really have to :-)

So go on get out there and get walking - or any other combination of exercise you enjoy that means you are going to take 30 mins of decent exercise a day.

Sometimes it's not that easy I know…
